How many parrots?

I have a 55 gallon with 7 juvenile parrotfish in it. I started with only 2, but well intentioned friends purchased me 3 for my birthday and I ended up rescuing 2 from a lady who had them in a 10 gallon.  I am getting a new tank for them this week....my budget allows for a 150 gallon extra tall or a 120 gallon long.

What will the parrots like more as they grow...the longer (60 long") smaller 120 gallon tank, or the extra tall 150 gallon (48" long by 24" wide by 31" tall)?

On The Right Track

Hey

I have five BPs in two different 20 gallons... (3 and 2).  I have had the tanks going for over 6 months each... (about one year and the other six months).  I have plenty of hiding places and tons of plants (fake.)  I just replaced both filters (20-40 gallon filters) and heaters (20-40 gallon heaters).  Do I need to due anything special beyond what I have done?

Enough room?

Hi,

I was just wondering if a 55g tank would be enough room for 1 Parrot Fish, 4 Silver Dollars and 1 Pleco? My BP is about 4 1/2" and my pleco is about the same, and my silver dollars are about 3 1/2, still rather small. I wont be adding anymore fish for now, and will be getting an 80g tank when i move. I just want to make sure a 55g is going to be sufficient for the time being?

My Parrots in Their New Tank - so far so good....

So my friend gave me some fish in a small 10g tank. I invested some time and effort into a 46g bowfront (I live in a small NYC apt)... I went with an AquaClear 110 filter. I am kind of new to this hobby and I am not sure if the tank has cycled properly (PH was a bit high but amonia, nitrate, nitires were ok - possibly a sign that it didn't cycle yet? The fish don't seem to be acting stressed as far as i can tell (I just added them today). I used "Cycle" to add the beneficial bacteria and "fed" the tank. I am hearing maybe this wasn't the best route to go but I wasn't sure since I am new.

new tank

hi everyone, i picked up a 37 gallon cube tank for next to nothing, 24 rt to left, 20 tall and 18 front to back, was wondering if this enough to house one parrot and maybe some cories? any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Update on the sand storm.. lessons to be learned about changing from gravel to sand!!

Hey so It pretty much settled yesterday (the sand) I decided to put the
filter on and it pretty much got rid of the tiny particles in the water
not fully but it is much improved. I think I will have to lol dust the
fake plants and re decorate. So lessons learned, if you are changing
from gravel to sand with an already cycled tank I would put the sand in
first make sure you rinse the sand even if your lfs says not to worry.
Put the sand in your tank wait 2 days then put the filter on the 3rd
day then after that decorate. lol Any who hope this helps new sand

How Do I Get Rid Of The Sand Storm In My Tank ??

Hi I am new to this forum. First off my name is Noelle and I have a BP currently in a quarantine tank getting better from a case of ick. I decided while she was getting better to do some remodeling in her tank. I switched from gravel to sand last night using about four 5lb bags of silica sand for a 30gal tank. When doing this I shut down my tank completely having my filters off. When I was done with this project I knew the water was going to be cloudy but thought that maybe by the morning it would be pretty normal. I didnt put the filter back on ever since putting the sand in the tank.

Parrot Fish Perfect Water Temperature

Hello,

I've heard all kinds of stories and suggestions regarding Parrot Fish water temperatures. But no two comments agree.

One of my older 'brats' is experiencing skin colour changes from bright orange to almost light grey at times. I just can't figure out if this colour change is due to stress, food, or water temperature.

Their tanks are sitting at 74-76 degrees F. Is this too low for these fish.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Steve
