Parrot Behavior

SPAWNING BEHAVIOR

what exactly is the spawning behavior of blood parrots?

My BPS

I recently got my bigger BPS exchanged for a smaller pair. The older BPS stayed with me for around a month. But I have noticed that this pair of new BPS seldom hide in their caves like the previous BPS. These new BPS are always moving about playfully in the tank.

I have a pair of small spotted BPS with them and this does not bother the BPS. My tank is 75 gallons.

Parrot is very dominant

this is not a problem, more of a funny story really, i have a parrot, a green terror, and an oscar. although the parrot is the smallest, it goes after the other fish! It is no big deal though because the parrot can't close his mouth and the other fish aren't bothered by it.

Remember Me - with the Biting BP's?

I wrote in a few weeks ago about my 2 BP's, Merrill and Punch, who were living in a 20 gallon tank (which I did not know was too small), and who were biting me constantly when I tried to clean up their house and who have also started having altercations amongst themselves. Anyway, I just upgraded to a 90 gallon tank and I am really excited about the whole thing...it's decorated and running and all I can do is sit and look at it...it's so peaceful. It has only been cycling for a day so far, but I expect to put them in their new home within a week and can't wait.

Parrot Acting Sick

One of my Parrots is hanging at the corner top of the tank. slightly floating sideways. He was fine up until yesterday when I did a partial water change and cleaning of the tank. Is this just being stressed out from all that? Will he be ok?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Trish

new owner

Hello All,

I am a new Blood Parrott Fish owner (I love them), I've had them for just over a week now and I have a few questions if any one would help. First I have 2 BP's in a 30gallon tank with 1 angel fish, 2 crayfish, and an alge eater, is this too many fish for one tank? The one BP always picks on the other BP, but nothing else.

HELP!

I have a 16 gallon tank, and when I started out I was wooed by the cute mannerisms of the Blood Parrot Cichlid, and I bought three of them. They were quite small, only about 2" long. After about 6 weeks, one of them jumped out of the tank. I believe that the jumper was being picked on by one of the other two. After he jumped, I noticed that one of the BPs was being very territorial, and the both of them spent most of their time hiding in the tank decorations.

My BPs bite me....

Hi. I have had two BP's (Merrill and Punch) for about 1.5 years. We love them to death and find them very amusing. In the 1.5 years they have grown 2.5 inches to be now about 3.5 inches each and are very healthy in spite of me not knowing what I was getting myself into. Merrill, the larger more agressive one - has always wanted to bite at me when I have my/hand or arm in the tank, but he (she? - not sure) is really getting out of hand lately. Is this normal behavior and is there something I can do that will stop it?

HELP---I NEED ADVISE ON MY PARROT CICHLID...

My fish is pale, but he is 5 years old...he also has not eaten in 4 weeks! Help would be appreciated!
thanks
