Parrot Behavior

Parrot fish swimming upside down.

what can I do to help my fish? He is floating upside down. He tries to swim upright but just rolls over belly side up. I am worried because part of his body is out of the water when he does this. He is in a 75 gal tank with 1 spotted puffer and a few Cory catfish.  Water parameters are good.

Tank Mates

Hey guys, first time poster! I could really use some help, I have a large 2 year old parrot in my 55 gallon tank along with my 1 year old parrot which is medium sized. The large parrot constantly bullies the medium sized parrot to the point that I had to designate an area of refuge for the medium sized parrot. I've seen beautiful tanks filled with cichlids, especially parrots and would love to have my tank like that. Do you have any tips? Maybe add another parrot or 2 to take away from the bullying?

Stopped Eating

I moved my BP into a larger tank on Sunday. He hide half the day, but has since been swiming around acting normal (chasing me around the tank, dancing when he seems me etc), but he still will not eat his usual food (today is Tuesday).

HELP!!! Psychotic Blood Parrot!?

I apoligize ahead of time for the long post.  I don't exactly know what information is going to be useful or not, but I want to be thorough. I have had Apollo, a blood parrot for almost 2 years now.  I bought him at about 2 inches and light orange in color from a local pet store chain.  He hid in his hide for the first 6 months. He is now about 4 1/2 inches long, bright orange and seems to be in good health.  He is not nearly as shy as when I bought him and he even seems to be curious about me when I sit by the tank.  But, about 2 months ago that changed.  He now tries to attack anything that touches the glass and he won't stop until the it leaves his line of sight.

New fish

HI

I am new to this. We have just completed setting up our tropical tank and have 2 red parrot fish. The first day they were inseperable and swam around the tank together. since second day one has been hiding under a fake log and anytime the other goes near the one under the log nudges it out the way or tries to nip at it.

Any advice as to whether this is normal behaviour and why they might be doing this?

many thanks

Jen

Only had BP 5 days and alot of aggression

I am new to this. Only had them 5 days. But one of my BP is really a bully. One is 3in and the other 2in. The bigger one constantly rams / chases/ Bites the smaller one. He always chases him to the top corner of the tank near my filter. It happens all day , no rest for the lil one. Does this go away with time? I was thinking of I might have to return the aggressive one for another BP. But does this happen with all BP? I feel sorry for the lil one and dont want him to get hurt.

BP couple have destroyed the place

BP male and female have completely destroyed the place. Dug holes everywhere. Ripped up all the plants. Knocked over the statues. Built high walls of gravel and are spawning like rabbits. They have been at it for 48 hours now non stop but I see no eggs. But the male seems to fertilize then go back an eat some invisible item. These are rescue parrots and I know nothing about cichlids. Or really much about fish for that matter. For the first 4 days I've had them I bragged and gushed about what cute little water puppies they were. Had visions of plants for hiding behind, cute driftwood.

Colour loss

Yesterday, I came back from a 2 day trip. When I came back, all 3 of my KK parrots were hiding in the corner. In the begining they would hide and not eat. But 10 min later they started to eat. Also, I noticed that one of the smaller KK parrot fish was losing its orangish colour. I thought it was sick but then I looked at the bigger one and he was not that orangish. Then, today, I saw that the fish is more orange. Is it natural, or are they sick.

What is wrong with my baby? :(

Molly is about 3 1/2 years old. I've noticed lately that she shakes. It's rather odd, and I'm kind of concerned. Is there something wrong with her?

One Parrot bullying the other

My two blood parrots have been living in harmony for almost 2 years.  About two months ago, I started noticing that the female fish was not growing at the same rate as the male fish and that she was having trouble eating.  I starting hand-feeding her but she could still not keep up with the amount of food the other was eating.  Two weeks ago, I notice her lip was white/swollen and it appeared to be a fungus growing on it.  I removed her promptly and she spent 8 days in a "hospital tank" getting medication.  I returned her to the main tank two days ago.  This is when the problems really sta

one of my long time parrots died

I have a question, I had purchased a pair of parrots back in April, 2008, they havd been inseparable for the past 6 yrs. I think one was a female and one a male (not sure) becasue they would lay eggs periodically and stick them to rocks and fan them for several days. Well, this week I found one dead. I believe, based on the size and color (a deep tangerine orange) it was the male. the other one is smaller and more pineapple color.

My question ..... is it best to re-pair it  (no pun intended) immediately ? Or is it advisable to give it some time.

king kong parrot

I was thinking that is sometimes of parrots mouth closing is ok????

Funny behavior

its been awhile

but now i got a 4 inch blood parrot thats in charge of some mean african cichlids he was with community fish but he killed som.of those hope he dont kill my africans or firemouths is it possible?

Shy Parrot

I got a lovely female about two weeks ago, and while she's awfully sweet and gentle, she is VERY timid.

Before I go on, she's in perfect health, her color is bright, eyes are clear, she's eating fine. It's just every time I walk past the tank, or even when the dogs walk past the tank, she takes off like a bat out of hell for one of her caves. :/

DEJAVU ALL OVER AGAIN

A while ago I posted having to return one of my Parrots, a male, for overly aggressive behavior towards all of my fish (during an egg laying situation with his mate) Well, the same thing is happening with this other guy! Its weird because I had four Parrots, two of them orange and two of them this yellow kind of color. It turns out both orange fish are definitly females and these yellow types are both male.

Aggressive BP when cleaning tank?

I've had Einstein since mid-July. No clue if it is male or female but I've assigned it a "he". He is around 3 inches long and lives in a 30g with 2 Emerald Corys and 1 Leopard Pleco. He has been fine with them. My question is about his aggressive behavior towards ME. He has become more and more aggressive towards my hand when I am rearranging or cleaning his tank. It doesn't hurt, per say, but it scares the crap out of me and he has become pretty relentless.

WHATS HAPPENING HERE?

Again one of my Parrot fish is going through what I know to be the egg laying process. She is paired up with what I thought to be another female but he or she is acting like a male. They are both together in the cave, or they were they are now swimming about. Without going into this long story I would like to know if it is possible my fish are eating the eggs soon after laying them? Or, is my female unable to produce eggs? Her white tube is long and extended where it is usually barely seen.

Follow up on a story from a little while back

A while back I wrote a story about returning one male Parrot to the fish store after having him for over a year. Well I have been checking up on the guy and it seems that he did the same thing in the pet stores 200 gl. tank as he was in mine. After adapting to his new home he took up with another female, they paired off picked a corner of the tank and commenced to building a nest. I asked the pet store owner how much he would charge me if I took my fish back. I was suprised when he said 20 dollars but thats neither here nor there.
