Red inflammation at one of the nares

I have a large beautiful Parrot fish in a 42 gal aquarium. Over the past few weeks, he has developed a bright red excrescence on one of his nares. His activity and feeding patterns are normal for him, tho his color paled for a few days and is now back again. I have added salt and Melaluca solution to the water, but this ? tumor ? inflammation continues to get worse. Any ideas ?

Tank Help

My BPs tank is a mess! I have two fish in a 20 gallon tank, not a lot of decor, no gravel. I have a 50 gallon filter with a biowheel that runs fine but within a week the tank is totally disgusting. A lite brown film coating everything. It is not algae, the tank is not in direct sunlight and I only leave the light on 8 hours a day. I test the water regularly and the ammonia and pH levels are normal. I have friends who clean their fishtanks every other month. I'm having to do a major cleaning every week! Does anyone have any suggestions?

today is water change day. i slacked off and went a whole week without doing any so my work is cut out for me. i have to change six tanks at 50% and vacuum 20 square feet of gravel. i had to work 7 days straight so i was too lazy when i got home to do a mid week change like i normally do. i will have to get back on schedule to doing one every 4 days. big fish make alot of waste, and i have alot of them.

My BP died.

One of my BP died yesterday night. I don't know how and why. There were no signs of any disease... black or white spots. I just did a 100% water change yesterday

Could a pair of smaller yellow parrots which are more aggressive than my BP be the cause of this? The yellow parrots move very fast and aggressively in the tank. I don't think my ghost knife fish did something because they are way to small for the parrot and there are no marks on the parrots body...

What happened.

sunny is a fish with alot of personality. he is very aggressive, but he is also very playful. he chases all my fish at different times and he will chase me while i am cleaning the tank. it is funny when i forget about him and get really into cleaning. he will sneak up, attack me and sometimes he really startles me. if he could close his mouth, he would probably have to be kept by himself, because he is mean. if he corners someone like other fish or humans, he rams them. my wife didn't believe me until he finally did it to her. i was kind of upset when we got him.

Repairing a leak

I have the opportunity to get a free 35 gallon tank with all the stuff and a stand from someone I work with. She says it has a "very small leak" that her husband says should be easy to repair. I checked online and it seems like it will be easy. Has anyone ever had to do this? Any input about your experiences would be helpful. Thanks friends.

OMG! Never again

Well, today was moving day (for the parrots, that is) most of the day Iv been at it,including TWO trips to the LFS for new bits, new filter wouldn't work for a while( Id sucked up gravel while positioning it) cat chewed the airline in half while I wasn't looking and my back is killing me, Iv just opened a bottle of wine and intend to drink it all while I wait for pain killers to kick in, however ,from my position on the sofa (couch) from which I have no intention of leaving until bedtime, I can see two happy parrots swimming about in the LED underwater illuminated tank(glad something has e

I saw a link about maps sometime back. Am not able to locate the link anymore.

Can anyone help me as I would like to update my location in the map.

Update on Breeding Pair of Jellybeans

I posted about a month ago that I have gotten a pair of breeding jellybeans from a lady that had been selling the babies from them. I tried setting up my tank as close to her's as possible, but they have laid eggs 3 times but never hatched.

After all this, I was wondering if a could add a pure convict. Should I get just another male or pair? Any advice please?

Ode to misinformation.

I trusted a Salesman. For shame.

egg advice

Today i noticed that my bps are not leaving a certain area in the tank. upon further investigation i discoverd that they have laid eggs on the bubble maker thing. i have two tiger oscars in the tank with them what should i do? and how long is it before the eggs hatch?

Daffodil Brichardi

I am wondering how aggressive these fish are. I have four BP's about an inch n half, 2 yellow labs ( 1 1/2") and the daffodil's are also about 1 1/2". I guy as work want's to give them to me.

egg bound?

I am almost sure baby has laid eggs (again) although I cant spot them, but I think she may have one"stuck" for the last two days, although its just possible that what i am seeing is the ovipositor which is retracting and whiter than usual, she wont stay still long enough for me to have a proper look, she isn't eating much but she never does if she is defending eggs, and otherwise is swimming and acting normally, is there anything I should do, Iv given extra roughage but should I not feed for a day or so, up to now Im happy to watch and hope shell pass it or reabsorb it, I havent got a spare

where are you?

Quick poll, every morning when I get up there's been a load of postings overnight and when Im online Im on my own, I know we have a map but roughly, wheres everyone from? Im Northern England,UK

blue congo/parrots/firemouth/severums and on and on and on!!!!

blue Congo's are also known as yellowfin tetras or yellow fin tetras and are African characins, who seem to thrive with south American cichlids, very peaceful schooling fish, need a big tank, can grow to 5cms in the aquarium, not picky eaters, they are beautiful fluorescent fish, silvery with a red strip and a blue one underneath along the body, males more colourful than the females, the dorsal fin develops into a long feathery fin, they can be occasional fin nippers but mine leave my parrots well alone, but I wouldn't put them with Angels I have decided to wait until my new tank is up and runni

what exactly is the spawning behavior of blood parrots?

If interested in my Parrots fry, email me at
They are not dyed they are just the pale cream color.

I have a breeding pair of Parrots, and I am looking for someone to take the fry off my hands. I will continue to breed them as long as they want to breed. I was told that the male was sterile but I have fry swimming around. Anyone that wants any, please message me. I do not know much about them. I am new to this all, I have had them for 4 whole months now, and they breed and killed off the other fish in the tank. They killed both of my oscors.

how many dollars?

I am compiling a short list of fish now to go into a new 50 gall tank with 6 blue congos and a pair of parrots, either one or two severums (maybe a bit cramped) OR one or two firemouths(may be a little aggressive if spawning) OR another one or two parrots OR a group of silver dollars(how many could I put in?), how about one more parrot AND some silver dollars ? every time I visit a LFS, they try to steer me towards whatever they have in stock!

Mt new kids

I have just purchased 3 new parrot fish approximately 1 year olds. In a separate tank I have some incredible discus but these are my first parrot fish so any info and help would be welcome. I also breed sailfin mollies and angel fish - totally insane but that is me. If anybody out there can give me some advice on these beautitful fish I would be very grateful. They have settled in very well - still a bit wary but am sure in time will realise that they are in fish heaven and will be loved unconditionally whatever they do.
