Hi, A 5 gal tank is way too small for your parrot to keep healthy and stress free. I would recommend you should look at guppies or a single small parrot not more than 1" in size. That too just for a month or 2. Post which you will need a bigger tank. I would suggest if you have $$$ invest in a 20gal atleast.

Well my mom said that we are only going to get two.I might get a medium one and the one my mom is getting is a "baby" parrot fish! I have the money too but i have to earn it oh and will betta fish and parrots get along?!?!oh and thanks for replying!

If you are talking abt the siamese fighter bettas they dont get along and i can tell u that by experience.... My parrots (6 of them ) all attacked it together and within minutes he was gone .... I still believe 5 gal is way too small for even 1 parrot. You could rather just keep the betta.

they are already in there and they are all fighting!I am taking back the big one and the medium one and keppong the little one i am going to go back ang get two little ones!

OOOOMYYYY well if you have that many parrots in one little tamk, an there fighting!, they're fighting for territory, an space, an oxygen, food....! aww your poor parrots, if you have those large ones in a 10gal or 5gal thell probly go insaine with energy from being cooped up, even for a babie parrot they still need about a 30gal to start out in, soo if you take back some parrots for now i deff dont think you need to get any more parrots at least for alittle while, wait untill youll be able too get a larger tank cause if your not careful your parrots might peck at each other untill there really sick or they could even jump out!, soo please be careful, if you really love your parrots youll wait till your tank is larger thats all:), i really wish you the best:)....

HI, if you check the date of the original posting, youl see that it was posted one year ago, sometimes the postings get mixed up like this, just think, even now the same problems occur, but everytime a posting is made, and an answer returned, I think we all learn a little more

Ok i went back and purchased two little ones and i traded in the big one and the medium one! Now they are all small and they go up and down the walls and follow eachother! it is too cute! oh and is it normal for them to bump eachother?!

In a 5 gal tank ...i am sure they will bump eachother ....

no like they each have their own corner and if you go nea meme's corner she pushes them away!

Yes parrots are territorial and they would exhibit such behaviour....

ok thank you SO MUCH for all of your help! :)

parrotfish need at least 55 gallons to thrive , i suggest you research the fish you want to get before you get it, my friend went through 2 african cichlids before he and I got on the net and found out his setup was totally wrong. Also people don't realise that you have to use aquarium sand or tiny, tiny gravel in a cichlid tank, parrotfish included, because they are constantly digging. Regular aquarium gravel tears up their mouths. They also need plenty of hiding places and low lighting, nothing containing paint can go in tank so if you use pottery make sure it is unpainted and made of clay. please do some research!!!

You will need to get a much larger tank before long. I have 2 - 1 1/2" baby parrot fish in a 30 gallon tank now.(with 3 giant danios for dither fish, and 2 pepper corie cats.) All of these will soon be moved up to a 55 gallon within the next month or so. Parrot fish get to be 8-10 inches long, + the height of each fish and the girth. I don't think they will live long in a 5 gallon. Tammy

WAY TOOOOO SMALL. You will eventually kill them for lack of oxygen and high nitrates. WHO SOLD YOU THISE FISH? GET A LARGER TANK NOW! CRUEL> ONE WOULD NOT EVEN WORK FOR VERY LONG. CRAZY THESE ARE LIVE ANIMALS. READ UP AND FIND A BIGGER HOME. SO SAD FOR THE SMALL BP'S AS THEY GROW THEY WILL GET MORE TERRITORIAL. PLEASE READ UP!
