Re: i dont know what to do about my bps laying eggs! will someon
i do weekly water changes so i guess ill be seeing this alot? :)
eggs
as soon as the eggs get eaten, my pair start to clean a rock etc to get ready for the next batch, about every 3-4 weeks
eggs
I logged on today and saw your post for the first time, the other post is spot on, I,l just add that your tank conditions must be just right for them to be laying eggs, If you have to remove the eggs yourself, you will seethe fish start to prepare for the next batch pretty quickly, more so if you,v just done a water change
thank u so much!
thats exactly whats happening. the little one (tangerine) wont leave the eggs so she isnt eating much. and the big one (sun) tries to stay with her most times (but shes even mean to him :) i only have 9 tetras in the tank and they wont leave the other side of the tank,so everyones fine. but sun seems to be chasing the pleco around, i guess trying to protect her. no fungus yet, so i guess ill just keep an eye out, if they get white ill vacume them up :( and thank u so much 4 answering me, ur the only one who did! i hope u feel better soon !!!
RE: dont know what to do about my bps laying eggs!
First of all don't panic. Get ready to see this, maybe monthly. My BP went two weeks after her first time.
I would guess the little one is the female. They have a large egg tube when they lay eggs.
Keep an eye on the eggs, they will probably get fungus on them. It is doubtful your other fish already fertilized them. In fact the other one may be a female. Normally male BPs are sterile. I have read recently that some of the more recent attempts are able to breed. I am sure it is a very small percent.
If your eggs get fungus on them, the two fish are supposed to eat them. Don't count on that. You will need to remove them if they don't take care of that. If it is a miracle, and it is very, very doubtful, they are fertalized they should not get
fungus. The parents are supposed to take care of them. If you get that far, get back for more info.
The female will or should stay close and fan the eggs. (The second BP may also) She probably won't eat much and it's a lot of fun. :( Usually she is very mean and protective.
You can do a small water change if the eggs are in a place you can get them off that way. Mine lays hers in a cave and we have take it out.
I would watch the other fish in the tank as the female is often very mean to them.
Before they lay eggs the female usually gets brilliant color. She also looks very fat and the tube shows really large. So next time you can be more prepared.
Sorry to be slow answering, I have hurt my back, and am on pain meds. So I sure hope this makes sense.
Good Luck
