A club for owners of Parrot Cichlids

you can give them raw shrimp or prawns. it is a good treat and it brings out their color. it is good for them and it is fun to watch them eat like pigs.

they will eat it and i used to feed mine stuff like that because they seemed to like it so much, but then a member asked why anyone would feed stuff that wasn't made specifically for cichlids and i got to wondering, I guess so much of our food is packed with preservatives and growth hormones,and has hidden fats and salt, etc and maybe isn't the best, when you can buy pellets etc which really is full of the right things for them, so i stopped, i think the important thing is to give them a variety of pellet, fake,granules, and fresh and frozen bloodworm(sparingly) plus a few shelled, frozen thawed frozen peas weekly is natural and prevents swim bladder and constipation,I think we attribute human feelings to fish regarding food ie "yum, here comes that particular type of food that I haven't had for a while"whereas really they just think"food!!!"
