MY FISH

HI ALL. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY LOST. I LOST MY BABIES TO NO POWER. WE HAD A HURRICANE HERE IN HOUSTON AND THE POWER STAYED OFF FOR DAYS AND MY BABIES DIDN'T MAKE IT. I HAD THEM ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND I WAS REALLY FOND ON THEM. I STARED OVER BUT IT JUST NOT THE SAME. I'M STILL SO SAD :(

I'm very sorry for you loss. I worry about power outages myself during thunderstorms but have been lucky no to lose power for more than a hour. Since you have started over you may want to look into getting a battery operated air pump for emergencies. Petsmart has them and they aren't very expensive.

I hope everything works out with your new fish. Good luck!

Advise I was given in case of power cuts was to put several plastic bottles of hot water into the tank and keep replenishing them, also to wrap the tank in silver foil or space blanket and throw a duvet over it, only works of course if you are present at the time but you could at least try it if you know you were going to have to leave your home I m sorry that you lost your fish!

Oh, that is sad. I am so sorry you lost your fish. This is always a fear of mine since once in awhile my cats unplug my tank or we have a storm. It's good to know you can get a battery operated air pump. I wonder if you can you get a battery back up for the heater too?? In the winter I am afraid of the tank getting cold if the silly cats (they are young and crazy) unplug things while we are out. I turn my heat way down when I leave in the morning....times are tough...And sometimes we go away for an overnight or even two nights and turn down the heat in the house. I will try to find out and post when I do. Maybe this is not so critical now that I have my bigger tank....but still. Good luck with your new fish.

I am so sorry. I know how it feels to lose the fish you are so fond of. I lost my 2 parrots on a trip from Ohio to Colorado. The ammonia spiked and I didn't know it until it was too late. I still miss those guys and no parrots have ever compared. I just lost my jellybean a couple weeks ago... she was an original and several years old. Still missing her like crazy.

The battery operated air pump is great. For my trip I got a converter that plugged into the lighter in my car and I could plug in 4 things. This is waaay extreme, but ever in that situation for an extended period of time and they appear not to be doing well, you could put them in a fairly large cooler and hook them up to that. Just a thought since it worked for a filter, air pump, and a mini heater (don't want to over heat). Of course, you would have to run the car and pull it out of the garage, but just a thought.

I'm very sorry to hear that...
