hi i have 2 parrot cichlids which ive not had for long,i dont know which one is male or female, although 1 has a pinkish colour under its gills, they both have long pointed dorsel fins. the one with the pinkish colour has been making a hole in the tank bed bye sucking up the stones and carrying them away then goes back and fans the area then starts again, if this it is a male,is this usual behavior ..
the other one stays to one side of the tank near the heater and just stays still untill the other comes away from the hole its making,, then they will both swim side to side in a circle laying on there sides,...could this be a sign that they r ready for breeding.. any info wud be helpful as ive never had cichlids before, there is also 2 plecs in the tank with them

hole digging
they probably are going to try to breed again. my biggest male digs inside his hideout even though there is no female with him. but my two smaller parrots dig a pit, guard it, lay eggs, guard them, and then they eat them. it happened 3 times before i put my small male in my big tank and got my female a white male jelly bean. they haven't paired up yet but i am hoping they do
hole digging
my parrot cichlids dig holes around their tank and every 3-4 weeks in the spot they were digging.of course the eggs never hatched. so maybe their getting ready to lay eggs
