As part of treatment to rid my parrot of black spot,I added the required amount of aquarium salt to the water changes that I was doing at that time. The black spot has now gone and my water parameters are just perfect, due to a physical injury ,I am now maintaining the tank by doing frequent(weekly) but smaller water changes, IE one 5 gallon bucket out, one five gallon bucket back in.How do I calculate the small amount needed when I know salt doesn't evaporate in the tank? Also the temp is a little high at 82% but the fish seem healthy and are laying eggs, do I need to reduce it to around 78-80?
I have had a one parrot fish for about 2 1/2 years. its was given to me by my sister-in-law that moved out of town. About 3 wks. ago, I bought another one. Now they must have mated. I see eggs on one of the rock in the tank. How long will it take for these eggs to hatch. And will the babies be in danger of the parents. The parents are the only other fish in the tank. i need help on this matter. I just noticed these eggs on 5/4/ 08.
We have had our 4 parrots now for 2 weeks. They are so quirky and wonderful! We purchased some giant danios last week as dither fish and what a world of difference this had made. They now come to the glass and follow our fingers, and do the "feed me dance." Out of the four, one is still a bit shy ... but in two weeks their true personalities are shining through.
Hello-
One of the parrots (I have 5) is a bit more reclusive than the others. He always last to come out and eat and usually hides in a separate place than then the others. He's also more subjective to black spots. These habits and patterns have been common since he joined the tank 2 years ago. Recently, I noticed that the gills on his left side are sticking out slightly from the gill covers. I make certain to check my fish often so it's a fairly recent condition. I'm not sure if this is something that happens and is ok, or if it's indicative of something more severe or an injury.
Hi Everyone!
I've seen some black parrot cichlids.I'd like to buy one but I don't know that would they lose the black color or they will stay black?
If you can help me please reply.

I understand that BP's are infertile,so how come so many owners have viable eggs in their tanks? Is it true that in the states fish breeders are injecting fish with hormones to trigger reproduction? isn't this cruel?Like dyeing them ? how long should I leave the eggs before removing them if they don't get eaten? Also how often do parrots spawn,My Baby is driving General Finn away from the nest and eggs and he developed black spot which has now gone after treating water with natural methods, will he get this every time they are spawning? So few parrots, so many questions!!
Hi
Since most of us do in our hobby face this once if not more i thought it was a good idea to share some light on what actually is the cause of this.
ICH & Black spots / patches are closely related to stress in parrots and most other fish. ICH in particular is impossible to erradicate from your tank. Now if your fish are not suffering it does not mean those parasites aint in your tank its just that your fish are health and immune. However a change in your tank params could easily get to them.
There are easy methods and ways you can avoid this.
had my bp for 8 months now. for the last 2 weeks she is hiding in her cave all the time and not eating much. have tried the bloodworms which she usually loves and doesnt touch them right now. color not changing and no growths or marks of any kind on her.
Any idea what is happening?
