Tank Setup

Sand

I'm fairly new to having my H2O loving pet and I was wondering if play sand is really safe - i.e. from Lowe's - or should I get the marine stuff from the pet store? I realize that I'll need to clean it but I just got a new tank/filter and would really to like not screw it up!
Also- do Parrot's like a mixed substrate or should i look into removing the pebbles before adding sand. I thought that having some pebble with the sand might help keep the sand from compacting, but I really don't know. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Where to find a good tank?

I currently have my parrots in a 10 gallon which I know is too small. I was told that the 10 would be ok until I read more about them. I am now planning on a new tank and would like some suggestions for a cheap, preferably new aquarium and what size I should get. I have two and a pleco now and want to add some small fish also.

Thanks in advance,
Kolton

beginner..advice needed

Hello there.

Next month I plan on setting up a tropical fish before. I have only ever owned goldfish before so I'm trying to do my research (I won't let myself buy the fish until I'm 100% confident I can look after them properly!).

I bought my tank a few months ago from seapets.co.uk, the Roma 125 which came with a free aquarium pack. I just wondered if anybody else can tell me what I will need to set up my tank before I am able to put a parrot cichlid into it. Included in the tank & starter pack are (click to "read more"!...):

New Tank Question

I am new to this list as I am thinking about starting a new tank and getting a pair of parrot cichlids. I have a cichlid tank now that has been established for several years. My question is about cycling. Could I cycle the new tank faster by adding some gravel, water and filter media to the new tank?

Any advice?

Thanks!
Lisa
